HAIR TRANSPLANTATION OPERATION and ımplementatıons
Hair is an integral part of beauty. If one considers that only the change in the colour or cut of the hair is directly associated with the beauty of the human, the importance of the difference between having hair and not having hair will be understood. Although many theories have been raised and many factors have been found about hair loss, the most important factor in male type baldness is the hormonal sensitivity of hair follicles. This sensitivity and the prevalence of baldness are usually determined genetically. In hair transplantation, hair follicles extracted from the scalp on the sides and back of the head are planted in the areas of hair loss. The number of hair follicles is calculated depending on the hair loss and the density of the remaining hair and the operation is performed. Generally, in hair transplantation applications, follicles between 1000 and 4000 are planted in 1 session and plantation may be repeated for 2 or 3 sessions, if required.
Hair transplantation is implemented under local anaesthesia. Side effects of local anaesthesia may include drug allergy-related, undesirable situations. It is appropriate to carry out the procedure in the hospital conditions to enable necessary intervention in such cases.
Although the operation duration varies depending on the number of follicles to be planted, it ranges between 4-7 hours on average. The scalp, which is covered with dressing following the operation, is opened after 1-3 days. The hair planted initially shed and the hair starts to grow permanently 3-4 months later. It is normal for hair to shed initially, and there is nothing to worry about.
In the FUE technique, the required number of hair follicles are extracted with micromotors and placed in channels in the area to be planted. Before the procedure, the patient’s hair is shortened to 1mm and local anaesthesia is applied to the area, where grafts will be taken from. While the hair transplantation team continues follicle extraction, the extracted follicles are simultaneously divided into groups and are made ready for planting. On average, there are 1-3 hair strands per graft.
Following the follicle extraction and sorting process, local anaesthesia is applied to the area to be planted and the channels where hair will be placed are opened. In this process, the direction and sequence of the channels are quite essential for obtaining natural hair appearance and significantly affect the success of the process. The advantage of the FUE method is that it does not leave scars on the scalp and minimizes the sense of surgical intervention. As hair is extracted from a large area, there is no dilution of the parts, where hair is extracted from.
One should be careful enough not to damage the roots during hair grafting. This is critical for the survival of the transplanted hair follicles and therefore the operation should be performed by experts. In order to obtain a natural hairline, the hairline should be determined by the hair to be planted in a certain order. Transplanted hair sheds after a while and then grows again. This period is approximately 3 months. Afterwards, transplanted hair continues to grow at the same rate with normal hair.
The patient can go home just after the procedure, as it will be performed under local anaesthesia. During the first 48 hours, the dressing is not opened and afterwards, the hair washing process is carried out by the hair transplantation team with special solutions. Swelling and bruises on the forehead and eyebrows can be seen following the transplantation, however, they are temporary. On the next day, the patient can go to work with a hat which is not compressive. Pain is not very intense and can be minimized by pain relief tablets.

*** If the hair density on the back of the head is sufficient to enable an appropriate number of graft extractions, hair can be planted as intense as desired and consequently a more bushy hair can be obtained.
