Aesthetic surgery is a shape correction surgery. In other words, it is changing the shape and/or dimensions of the damaged tissues and organs according to the patient’s taste and ideal anatomical measurements. Example: Augmentation of a small breast with a silicone prosthesis. Reconstructive surgery is a repair surgery. It is the reformation of organs, which are congenitally deficient or defected or have destroyed or deformed as a result of the accident, burn, tumour surgery. Example: Reconstruction of the breast removed as a result of cancer.

One of the most frequently questions asked by the people, who desire to have a more beautiful appearance of his/her body, is the price. For example: “How much is rhinoplasty?” As you can imagine, there is no single answer to this question. The surgery prices vary according to the patient’s anatomy as well as many other conditions such as the operation method to be used. Therefore, the first thing you should ask a doctor who is competent in his work should not be the price of the operation.

They can be applied to everyone with proper mental and physical health. However, there is an age limitation for some operations or an age that is ideal for performing that particular operation. For example; cleft lip operation should be performed when the baby is 2 months old on average. The average for cleft palate operation is 1 year and for prominent ear operation, it is 5-6 years. Breast augmentation/reduction operation and rhinoplasty should be performed over the age of 17 and facelift operation should be performed over the age of 40.

Controlled interventions are performed in these cases but an evaluation would be more appropriate following the required tests.

The risks of aesthetic operations are risks that may arise from the general health problems of the person as well as all other surgical procedures. Apart from this, there are no hazards associated with aesthetic operations. Since aesthetics operation does not involve vital organs and tissues, risking the patient’s health or life is not a matter of concern.

Many aesthetics operations are not painful because they involve skin and subcutaneous tissues. Even if there is a mild pain, it takes 1-2 days to disappear and it can be easily controlled with painkillers within this period. In operations involving muscles, for example, breast prosthesis operations, pain and tension sensations may last a little longer.

Although they are not as risky as vital organ operations, in aesthetic operations, there are a number of measures required to be taken as with all other surgical procedure. These measures can only be provided by the technical equipment of the fully equipped hospitals. In addition, performing operations in a private clinic, a dispensary, a polyclinic, a diagnostic centre, and similar places is not only illegal but also extremely inconvenient.

It is usually possible to go home the same day following the aesthetic operation. In some cases, the 1-day hospital stay is useful for follow-up. There may be rare situations requiring hospital stays of 2-3 days. The healing process, i.e. the removal of the bandages, plaster, stitches from the body, is completed within 1 week. The new shape formed as a result of the intervention performed will reach its final stage in a few months.

There is a common view that aesthetic operation is an operation which does not leave any scars. Appropriate operation materials and special suture materials are used. A scar will definitely remain, even if it is very small. However, in plastic surgery, these scars are hidden in some places. For example, scars are hidden inside the nose in rhinoplasty operations, inside the eyelid in eyelid aesthetic operations, behind the ear in ear operations, etc. In the abdominal stretching operations, the scar is slightly longer than that in the caesarean section and remains in the bikini zone. Liposuction does not leave any scars. In some operations, it is not possible to hide all scars. For example, as in breast reduction surgeries.

It is a false belief. Today, the main treatment of nevi, which are benign or have a cancer risk, is excision, in other words, surgical removal.

Waiting for at least 6 months to see the final shape of the scar and doing the correction afterwards is the most healthy one. During this time, it is important that you consult your doctor and take the recommendations into account, in order to ensure that the scar will be less visible. Wound and burn marks can never be completely corrected. These can only be reduced or alleviated. How successful the new appearance will be as a result of the plastic surgery to be performed, depends on the person’s skin structure and age, and the size, the body size, and the depth of the wound and burns.

It is possible to be pregnant and give birth, provided that the patient should wait for at least one year after the operation.

There is no such evidence for sure. The silicone-free woman’s cancer risk is the same as that of a woman with silicone. In addition, silicone makes the detection of possible breast cancer easier because it brings breast tissue forward.

In the studies performed, prostheses were exposed to so high and low pressures that a person could not survive and no problems were observed.

Standard silicone implants have no certain, in other words, limited lifespan. They can be carried for a lifetime.

Silicone implant application does no harm to breastfeeding.
